Recently, the National Association of Business Officers Colleges and University held its annual meeting.

There, Samantha Fisher, the director of the Center for Innovation and Leadership at the University of South Carolina, introduced a framework to help institutions identify new groups of potential learners and serve their needs more effectively. Fisher's presentation was a game-changer - it emphasized the importance of acknowledging the diverse types of learners.
From fresh high school graduates to career changers, there is a vast spectrum of individuals who can benefit from education. While some learners seek a four-year degree, others have already completed some college and are eager to jumpstart their careers.
And let's not forget about the career enhancers, changers, and personal enrichers - each with their own unique goals and motivations.
It's clear that there's no one-size-fits-all approach to education, and that understanding the different types of learners is key to creating effective learning environments.

Online courses and hybrid programs are prime examples of how flexibility can benefit career changers and personal enrichers. On the other hand, career starters and career enhancers can take advantage of career services, internships, and experiential learning opportunities.

To meet the increasing demand for lifelong learning, colleges and universities must recognize new groups of potential learners and formulate strategies accordingly. In this mission, comprehending the various types of learners and their prerequisites is pivotal.
